This is your opportunity to be an insider to the sports industry. Several internships are available for the 2010 season. All internships are unpaid positions open to current college students or recent college graduates. As an intern, you have the distinct opportunity to work for the Portland Beavers, Triple-A to the San Diego Padres and Portland Timbers, USL – 1st Division soccer team

In-Season Internships are available in the following departments: Ticket Sales, Community Outreach, Marketing, Sponsorship, Communications/Media, Promotions and Soccer Operations. Start dates are negotiable depending upon the qualified candidate’s availability. Some evening and weekend hours are required for all internships

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ticket Sales Assistants (8 interns)

• Develop and manage data capture initiative for 2010 season 
• Initiate sales call campaign 
• Be a customer service specialist 
• Assist with the group sales departments on-field programs and activities 
• Assist with player & mascot appearances at group and non-profit events 
• Be a Portland Beavers & Timbers representative at outside tournaments and events 
• Opportunity to earn commission on ticket sales

Kids Club Coordinators (2 interns)

• Manage and facilitate Kids Club program for 2010 season 
• Organize Kids Club activities and incentives 
• Be a customer service specialist 
• Be a Portland Beavers & Timbers representative at outside events 
• Assist with the other ticket sales programs 
• Opportunity to earn commission on sales of Kids Club Memberships and ticket sales

Community Outreach (2 interns)

• Schedule and attend mascot and player appearances
• Lead tours of the stadium
• Assist with the Portland Beavers & Portland Timbers Community Fund
• Manage informational table at off-site conventions, community related fairs and events
• Contact area businesses to set-up trade deals for player/staff incentives
• Track and file press clippings related to the Portland Beavers, Timbers and PGE Park

Hispanic Marketing (1 intern)

• Assisting with the creation, editing and printing of Spanish sales and marketing collateral pieces.
• Creating relationships with Latino-based media not worked with in past
• Assisting and coordinating any non-traditional Latino marketing efforts 
• Assisting and coordinating any appearances at Latino Community events 
• Implementing in-stadium name generation plan with emphasis on Latino Groups 
• Creating and maintaining of a contact database for all the Latino-based companies/organizations worked with throughout the course of the season. 
• Organizing and managing ticket relationships with various Latino stores/restaurants in the community.
• Supporting the promotions department when needed 
• Coordinating/Organizing promotional/marketing elements for Latino Nights and overall Latino outreach
• Maintaining the Portland Beavers and Timbers Facebook and Myspace pages
• Assisting with in-game fan photo program

Marketing (2 interns)

• Collecting and tracking media impressions for teams and park (advertisements and articles)
• Assisting with game-day operational duties. 
• Assisting with the creation, editing and printing of sales and marketing collateral pieces.
• Assisting and coordinating any non-traditional marketing efforts implementing in-stadium name generation plan.
• Assisting with the creation and execution of demographic research & survey plan.
• Supporting trade show/outside event plan and attending events when needed.
• Supporting the promotions department 
• Maintaining the Portland Beavers and Timbers Facebook and Myspace pages
• Assisting with in-game fan photo program (taking pictures of fans, uploading them to website, etc)

Sponsorships (2 interns)

• Assist in day to day partnership activities including prospecting new clients, creating partnership proposals
• Suite preparation on day of events. Set-up, securing unused suites & group picture execution
• Be proactive in the execution of current partnerships by contacting clients, assisting in giveaways, on-site appearances, in-game promotions and partner hospitality
• Support Suite Concierge during Beavers/Timbers events
• Assist in proof of performance pictures for all promotions and signage for annual reports
• Assist & support in all partner related events

Media Relations (2 interns)

• Assist the communications department at PGE Park
• Write press releases, feature stories, and game stories
• Editing team publications
• Compiling statistics packs and update the official team website(s)
• Print journalism experience is a plus

Photography (3 interns)

• Capturing quality photos/images for the Portland Beavers, Portland Timbers and other events at PGE Park
• Photo needs include pictures of game action, promotional events and sponsored activities
• Assist with photo needs for special projects including souvenir programs, baseball cards, and sales/marketing collateral
• All candidates must have their own photography equipment

Promotions (8 interns)

• Assist with the planning/development of the 2010 Beavers & Timbers promotional schedule 
• Update promotional affidavits and inventory spreadsheets 
• Coordinate tickets and sound checks for National Anthem singers 
• Research/organize lists of promotions from other sports organizations 
• Execute pre, in, and post game promotions for both Beavers & Timbers games 
• Identify & Support grass roots marketing efforts 
• Serve as mascot when necessary 
• All other assignments as instructed by the Manager, Promotions

A/V (2 interns)

• Planning, shooting, and editing of video elements for game and other team uses
• Upload and test all videos on V-Play
• Sound board or Camera operation on specific nights
• V-Play operation (running videos, capture & replay of game action)
• Download & conversion of daily KOIN weather videos (if that element is renewed for next year)
• Backup of good replays from V-Play machine for use in recap videos etc.
• Recording, logging and organizing footage from games
• Assisting with creation of still and animated graphics for in-game use when needed
• All other duties as assigned by the Manager, Promotions or Production Coordinator

Soccer Administration (1 intern)

• Work with general manager and team administrator to assist with any office administration functions
• Assist team administration with panning and execution of tryouts
• Design, research, creation and distribution of Timbers 2009 player trading card sets
• Set up and execute Timbers online jersey auctions using eBay
• Must be able to work match days, as well as some long or unusual hours
• Assist team administrator with coordinating and confirming Timbers team travel arrangements
• Assist with all visiting teams, including foreign exhibition teams

PDL Soccer Administration (1 intern)

• Work with team administrator to assist with any office administration functions
• Design, research, creation and distribution of PDL Marketing Plan
• Take and process PDL season ticket orders
• Set up and execute all PDL operations including administrative and game-day tasks
• Must be able to work match days, as well as some long or unusual hours
• Assist team administrator with coordinating and confirming Timbers PDL team travel arrangements
• Assist with all visiting teams

Soccer Camp Coordinator (1 intern)

• Primary contact and primarily responsible for all matters relating to Timbers summer youth soccer camps
• Create camp brochure for distribution
• Maintain and update existing camper database
• Process all registrations and payment for campers
• Coordinate check-in and check-out of campers on camp day
• Coordinate with coaching staff to ensure adequate coaches are staffed for camp and with team administrator to ensure adequate camper supplies
• Work with administrator to investigate additional areas to host camps and tap additional revenue streams

Video Analysis (1 intern)

• The VA Intern will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with the video analysis software provided. 
• Meet with the Timbers coaching staff on a weekly basis and provide the coaching staff with a game-specific video breakdown as well as a written synopsis of the breakdown. 
• This position will also be expected to attend home games and may be asked to film specific parts of all home games. 
• The VA Intern is expected to complete 20 hours per week, some of which can be completed off-site. 
• The VA Intern is expected to have a knowledge and proficiency in computers (Excel and Word), have a laptop PC and a soccer background.
