Colorado Springs Sky Sox Internship Program - Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Colorado Springs, CO)

INTERNSHIPS: The Sky Sox have FIVE FULL-TIME internships available for the 2010 season. All will begin on Monday, January 11th, 2010 and conclude Friday, September 10th. The internships will consist of inside sales (ticket plans), corporate sales (advertising, promotional sponsorships), group sales and work in one of the following areas: Public Relations, Marketing/ Promotions, Stadium Operations, Ticketing, Group Sales.

COMPENSATION FOR SKY SOX INTERNS IS AS FOLLOWS: THE SKY SOX WILL PROVIDE FURNISHED HOUSING FOR THE DURATION OF THE INTERNSHIP, ALL UTILITIES AND A MONTHLY STIPEND.

EXPECTATIONS: The Sky Sox expect that interns consider themselves a part of our staff. Within Minor League Baseball, the front office staff performs duties at all levels of management, sales and maintenance. Everyone working in Minor League Baseball wears many different "hats," and a willingness to go above and beyond one's normal duties is expected. The Sky Sox offer the opportunity to learn the business of baseball from the ground up and we expect our interns to embrace this opportunity.

DESCRIPTION:

• Create, sell and execute parties and various other types of group outings at the ballpark. Assist in ticket office and event catering operations as needed. Assist in daily coordination of group events and department operations, including pre-event set-up and post-event breakdown within group event areas, assistance in coordination of department ticketing needs, client support, customer relations, and other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a "create fun" attitude and the ability to interact with fans and potential clients in such a manner as to reflect the fun, yet professional, focus of group sales. Ability to think quickly on one's feet, strong communication and inter-personal skills, comfortable in providing outstanding customer service and be able to adapt to and overcome challenges presented in an event management setting, self-motivated, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), basic math skills.

*********** PUBLIC RELATIONS ***********

DESCRIPTION:
The Sky Sox Public Relations Internship is designed to teach the operation of a Minor League Baseball PR department through an immediate hands-on approach. The PR intern works closely with the Director of Public Relations in all areas and upon completion of the program will possess the skills to successfully organize and operate a Minor League Baseball team’s public relations program. Examples of some of the tasks for this position include but are not limited to: Compiling and produce daily statistics pack, writing game notes, distribute information packets to both teams, clean and organize the press box (including press box meal), assist with all media interviews and requests, assist with team travel, handle GameDay software responsibilities, plus much more.

REQUIREMENTS:

• This is a writing heavy position so solid writing skills are a must. A working knowledge of baseball including it’s rules is also important. Other important requirements are the ability to solve problems, very strong inter-personal and communication skills, ability to think on one's feet, self-motivation, basic computer skills (Word, Excel), and basic math knowledge.

*********** MARKETING & PROMOTIONS ***********

DESCRIPTION:
Sales of advertising, tickets and groups, hiring game-day promotional assistants, assisting with the planning of all game-day promotions and events and other tasks as assigned by Promotions Director. Planning and executing in-game AV production including operation of Venus 4000 video board software, production staff hiring & management, implementation of sponsored promotions and events and management of stadium closed circuit broadcast including camera operation and game recordings.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge and prior use of graphics software including Photoshop, Illustrator and basic video editing programs (Avid, Premier, etc.) encouraged. Knowledge of basic audio video equipment including, but not limited to, video switching equipment, speaker and sound systems, ClickEffects & Crossfire software, microphones are also encouraged. Ability to solve problems, inter-personal skills, customer service, ability to think on one's feet, self-motivated, basic computer skills (Word, Excel), basic math.

*********** STADIUM OPERATIONS INTERN ***********

DESCRIPTION:

• Because the Sky Sox ownership owns the land and stadium facilities, a good deal of your time will be spent in the maintenance of the property, you will also assist with the staffing of all game-day employees, other tasks as assigned by Operations Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to solve problems, strong inter-personal skills, customer service, ability to think on one's feet, self-motivated, basic computer skills (Word, Excel), basic math, ability to perform strenuous activities.

*********** TICKETING ***********

DESCRIPTION:

• Handling of box office ticket transactions, preparation of ticket packages (printing of season tickets, mini-plans), printing of group tickets, scheduling of birthday parties, handling all pass lists (front office, home clubhouse, visiting clubhouse), coordination of ticket outlet distribution, daily ticket/cash reconciliation, daily maintenance of internet ticket orders, web site maintenance, group sales shift (please note that group sales are daily and all other departmental work will need to be scheduled around them).

REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to solve problems, inter-personal skills, customer service, ability to think on one's feet, self-motivated, basic computer skills (Word, Excel), basic math, self-motivated.
