Assistant Grounds Manager - Tacoma Rainiers (Tacoma, Wa)

Job Description

The Assistant Grounds Manager is responsible for maintaining the grounds at Cheney Stadium and managing the crew under the supervision of the Head Groundskeeper. During the season this role includes preparation of the field for games, adhering to a field maintenance regimen to ensure a safe and playable surface. Specific daily jobs include: patching, mowing, watering, painting, chalking, dragging, and assisting in setup and tear down of batting practice. The Assistant Grounds Manager is in charge of scheduling and supervising the seasonal grounds crew staff as well as assisting in hands on training alongside the Head Groundskeeper. Monitoring weather is also an important role for the Assistant Grounds Manager. This will ensure that the skinned infield is covered when rain is expected, and enable the Head Groundskeeper to alert both teams, and umpires of any foreseeable weather issues. This position will also assist in field projects that include: aerating, topdressing, seeding, fertilizing, and maintenance or repair on the irrigation system. During special events that are hosted on the field at Cheney Stadium the Assistant Grounds Manager will assist in preparing the field for use, and setup and teardown of the venue.

During the offseason this position will assist the Head Groundskeeper with all post and pre-season projects on the field and on landscape areas, as well as assisting the Stadium Operations department with projects such as: painting, power washing, cleaning, and event set up and tear down.

 

Compensation

Full time, year round salary plus benefits

Start Date

As early as February 15th, and no later than March 14th

Skills and Qualifications:

  • College graduate of a 2 or 4 yr Turf Management degree or similar major
  • Baseball field maintenance experience
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of turf grass management practices
  • Ability to perform labor intensive tasks
  • Staff management, and time management skills
  • Basic equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to work long hours, some weekends, and some holidays

Communications Intern - Tacoma Rainiers Professional Baseball (Tacoma, WA)

The Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, are seeking a highly-qualified, driven college student to intern in the Communications department for the 2016 PCL season. Candidates must be students currently enrolled in college who are eligible to receive course credit in a related field (public relations, journalism, communications) to be considered. Ideal candidates will possess excellent writing skills, a background in journalism and/or public relations, and a strong working knowledge of the game of baseball. The communications intern will report to the club’s Media Relations Coordinator. This is an unpaid internship position for the Tacoma Rainiers 2016 season.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate interviews between local media and members of the team (players, coaching staff).
  • Compose and distribute game recap articles to be featured on the team’s website.
  • Update and distribute stat packs consisting of team and league information to team personnel and local media.
  • Compile, copy, and distribute game day materials (lineups, game notes, press releases, statistical reports).
  • Support the Tacoma Rainiers in-game social media presence.
  • Contribute written materials to be featured in the team’s game program.
  • Assist in the management and upkeep of the Cheney Stadium press box.
  • Complete additional projects assigned by the Rainiers Communications staff.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in and eligible to receive course credit from an accredited university or college in a related field (communications, sport management, public relations).
  • Strong knowledge of the game of baseball including statistics, terminology, and rules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Available to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Detailed Description:

• Responsible for selling Tacoma Rainiers ticket packages – including season tickets, mini-plans, group outings and other ticket packages.
• Responsible for servicing sales accounts by providing unsurpassed customer service.
• Responsible for generating and developing new business through leads lists, name collection activities, cold calls, networking events, speaking engagements, etc.
• Maintain a high standard of integrity during the sales and service process with each customer.
• Attend team and community events for the purpose of maximizing sales opportunities.
• Keep accurate sales files, customer service files, call reports, appointment schedule reports, prospects reports, etc. Maintain weekly communication on all activity reports.
• Follows and ensures implementation of all team sales programs.
• Assist with the development of team sales databases.
• Assist with sales campaigns.
• Works with Event Services to implement sales themes, promotions and events.
• Network within the local business area to acquire new business.

Hours of Work: This position will have game day responsibilities. Typical hours of non-game day work will be 8 AM – 5 PM (and beyond). Estimated game day hours will be 9 AM – 10 PM.

Job Objective:

This role is designed to provide an educational and integrated learning experience for students to advance their careers in the entertainment world and professional baseball. As a Game Entertainment Intern, you will work to help design entertainment scripts for Rainiers games, execute a great show in-between game play, assist in the coordination of a mascot appearance schedule, and more. Candidates will also work closely with multiple internal departments, including Corporate Partner Sales, Graphic Design, Marketing, & Ticketing and Stadium Operations. 

Responsibilities:

· Work with Game Entertainment Director and staff to execute game day script

o    Assist in direction of on-field entertainment

o    Assist in the creation of entertainment concepts, materials, props, etc.

o    Assist in the composition of PA scripts

·Maintain schedule of Rainiers mascot

o    Responsible for managing mascot calendar

Job Description

The Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, are seeking for qualified individuals to fill the grounds crew positions for the 2016 season. These positions are seasonal, and are paid at the minimum wage rate. The position will report directly to the Head Groundskeeper and assist on game day and non-game day events. This is a great opportunity to further your sports turf management career or just get your foot in the door if this is an industry that interests you. You will work alongside the Head Groundskeeper and crew as well as get to know others in the front office.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in all clay maintenance, infield skin, and warning track
  • Operating equipment for all other cultural practices such as aerating, topdressing, sweeping, sodding, mowing, and watering.  
  • Irrigation maintenance
  • Assist with tarp pulls and tarp removals
  • Setting up for Batting Practice as well as other in stadium events
  • Learn to recognize and diagnose pests and diseases in this climate

Requirements

Top candidates will be enrolled in a turf management or sports management program or have interest in doing so. Must have a hard work ethic and personal drive to succeed. Looking for quick learners who express interest in sports and are eager to learn as well as have a good time. Previous experience is not required but a bonus. Being able to lift up to 50 lbs and work long and sporadic hours is a must. Having a good attitude and desire to learn are important!
